Company History

Advanced Focus was founded in 2002 by Todd Biederman.  Todd had an uncompromising vision for the company based on his long-standing passion for qualitative marketing research (which began in 1989), and he was dedicated to building a national recruiting company that would deliver on its promise to provide exemplary data collection services.

Through our diligent commitment to the Marketing Research Profession, Advanced Focus has become not only the qualitative research facility and data collection specialists for the New York metropolitan area but also a national recruiting house.  We believe that in order to produce the most worthwhile qualitative and quantitative solutions, all hands on deck must possess an attitude that includes passion, dedication, professionalism, creativity, and innovation.

Advanced Focus is proud to be a trusted member of our client’s team, and, similarly to Vidal Sassoon’s belief, we understand that “if you don’t look good, we don’t look good.”  We vow to continually look beyond the obvious and to remain relevant whether it’s the environment and technology offered at our facilities, the local or national nature of recruiting for each unique project, or simply how we communicate.  We are constantly adjusting to the ever-changing needs of the marketing research world, while always keeping true to our original vision of providing marketing research services that exceed expectations.

Todd Biederman, CEO

Todd Biederman founded Advanced Focus in 2002 and continues to be one of the most passionate professionals in our industry. Having dedicated his career to Marketing Research, beginning in 1990, he has experienced all aspects of the research process, making him uniquely qualified to successfully lead the group of all-stars that have been assembled as the Advanced Focus team.

Todd began his marketing research career in Los Angeles at Murray Hill West, working his way from recruiter to Associate Director.  Soon after, he assumed the role of Directorship of Adler Weiner LA.  Over the years, Todd has built out five new marketing research facilities; the most recent and exciting being our very own Advanced Focus New York.

While many in the profession may recognize him from his years in Los Angeles, he has most assuredly remained a New Yorker at heart.  The deep love he has always felt for his ‘home town’ ultimately beckoned him back to the East Coast and led to the inception of Advanced Focus New York. 

In addition to his continued involvement with facility management, day-to-day operations of the company (including client acquisition and service), and all aspects of the qualitative research process, it’s truly Todd’s vision of growth for Advanced Focus that has allowed the company to reach its current state of sophistication.  There is nobody more dedicated to the long-term growth of our distinctive company than Todd, who cultivates an atmosphere of integrity and trust, always assuring that the success of our clients and their research is the number one priority. 

Undeniably, Todd’s professional achievements are exceptional and have been earned from an admirable dedication to excellence.  It was, however, the birth of his son in 2008 that instantly became the most rewarding achievement of his life.  Adding to that accomplishment would have been impossible had it not been for the birth of his beautiful daughter in September of 2010!

Bradley Solomon, President, PRC Expert

Brad joined Advanced Focus in 2003 during the early stages of its inception, as the Database Director, assuming the role of Executive Vice President in 2005, and most rencently in 2012 Brad became the President of Advanced Focus.  As a member of the team, Brad is indispensable regarding day-to-day operations of the company (including business and staff development, financial management and strategic planning), and is also involved with the oversight of all of the IT and telecommunications processes for the facility and corporate office.

His diverse talents, eagerness to meet challenges and positive attitude all contribute to the continued growth of Advanced Focus. As an active member of the Marketing Research Association (MRA), and other associations, Brad has quickly earned the respect and friendship of many in the marketing research profession.  We are very fortunate to have such a gifted and enthusiastic researcher as part of the Executive team.

Before joining Advanced Focus, Brad graduated from the University of Michigan, majoring in computer science, and continues to be an avid Wolverine fan, attending as many football games as possible each season.

Elise Dunn, Executive Vice President

Elise joined Advanced Focus in March of 2006 with over 20 years of dynamic experience in the industry.  As a second generation researcher, beginning her career at Adept Consumer Center in Southern California when she was only 17 years old, Elise is a natural communicator who excels in relationship building and is outstanding at developing meaningful client relationships; on a local and global level.   Grounded in all aspects of qualitative research and field management, Elise is able to oversee these areas with unparalleled enthusiasm and knowledge. 

Previously, Elise worked for The B/R/S Group as Director of Field Management.   At B/R/S, Elise partnered with major companies in a variety of fields, including:  Technology, health care, entertainment, consumer goods, service, and manufacturing.  While she is certainly a primary contributor to the passion that lives at Advanced Focus, it is how she embraces her role as “Mom” to children, Jack and Samantha, which delights all of her friends, family and associates.

Sara Solomon-White, Vice President

Advanced Focus was thrilled to welcome Sara Solomon-White to the company in February of 2010.  Sara has an extensive industry background (beginning her marketing research career in 1997), which includes project, facility and staff management, and over-all operations.   She brings a client service viewpoint that aligns perfectly with the company philosophy, and genuinely takes pleasure in welcoming each and every client to our New York facility.  While Sara recognizes how crucial recruiting accuracy and processes are, she also attaches an equal amount of importance to all areas related to the facility experience.   Sara’s reputation as the consummate professional proceeds her, and she has not failed in delivering the interpersonal, problem-solving, and directional skills needed to create an atmosphere of the highest quality.

Sara is a native New Yorker and graduated from New Paltz University in 1996 with a Bachelor’s in English Literature.  In the warmer months, she spends a great deal of time hiking at Bear Mountain and the Catskills, and also enjoys baking and reading any and all fiction she can get her hands on.

Nancy Mansmann, Project Director

Nancy joined Advanced Focus in February of 2012.  She came to us with five years of experience in market research and prior experience in the field of telecommunications.  Nancy enjoys coordinating and researching every project that comes across her desk.  Her attention to detail and multi-tasking have helped her specialize in large national recruits.  She is always willing to go the extra mile and prides herself on facilitating last minute requests.  Nancy has been privileged to have helped a diverse set of companies across different markets.

During any spare moments she has, Nancy spends time with her four children and four year old puppy Reggie (named after Reggie Jackson).  She is often found on the baseball or football field explaining the game to other mothers.  She is a die-hard Giants, Yankees and Knicks fan which was truly evident during the Giants most recent Super Bowl chase when she kept the “mojo” going by keeping her Christmas tree up until after they won the championship.



Jiyah Audain, Project Director

Jiyah joined Advanced Focus in late 2011, as a Qualitative Assistant at our facility, while attending the Art Institute of New York City for Interior Design. Her gained knowledge of market research and client relations through her work at the facility were put to good use, when she was brought over as an assistant project director. In this role, she excelled in supporting our project directors and recruiters on the day to day; an excellent choice for project director in 2014. 

 In her spare time, Jiyah enjoys doing all things creative-- whether that's reading, music of all kinds, art, and even dabbles in writing. She also enjoys spending time with her family, back in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and her friends.


Jay Winfield, Recruiting Supervisor

Jay began his dedicated service to Advanced Focus in November of 2004, initially fulfilling the role of recruiter, and then Associate Database Specialist.  Recognizing that his talent and passion was in the area of mentoring, Jay embraced the role of Recruiting Supervisor in January of 2010.  His responsibilities include daily briefings with Project Directors to prioritize staffing, discuss recruiting strategies, and convey sample needs.  Additionally, Jay trains recruiting staff on general procedures and specific project requirements, and monitors recruiter’s interaction with respondents.

On a fun and interesting note, Jay graduated from the “Fame” H.S. (High School Performing Arts Drama Major) in New York City, is a long suffering NY Knicks fan and a pop culture addict.

Randy Crews, Facility Manager

Randy has been a critical member of the Advanced Focus team since July 2005, at which time he became a celebrated recruiter by mastering the recruitment of consumer, medical and B2B respondents.  During the search for talent to manage our new state-of-the-art facility in 2006, it was obvious that Randy was an ideal fit and, therefore; he assumed the responsibility of Facility Manager.  Clients and respondents arriving at the facility are greeted by Randy, who is  prompt in making sure that everyone is comfortable and that all needs are taken care of.

Randy graduated from University of Buffalo in June 2005 with a B.A. in Communications, specializing in advertising and public relations.  In his spare time, he is an avid fan of movies, music, travel and technology.


Michael Skwiat, Loft Manager

After a decade in the radio business, Michael’s work with clients and advertisers provided him with keen insight into how important strong client relations are to a business.  Coming to Advanced Focus in 2012, Michael quickly progressed as a project director, where he was able to tend to his client’s needs and put his communication skills to use.

With a desire to learn and experience as much of the industry as possible, he shifted gears into Facility management, becoming supervisor of the Advanced Focus Loft.  He also transitioned into a database specialist, providing support for the project directors throughout various recruiting efforts. 

Michael enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife Marisa and precious baby girl Chloe.  Interests include movies, music, drumming and rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles!


Todd J Baamonde, Evening Facility Manager

Todd comes to Advanced Focus with a substantial background in marketing and facilities management. Previously Todd was the overnight shift manager for NBCUniversal, managing all facilities, operations and emergency response for the whole NBCUniversal operation at the 30 Rock facility. Prior to this Todd was the advertising manager at the largest Sharp copier dealership in NYC where he conceived and executed all of the advertising for the company during his five year tenure.

In his spare time, Todd enjoys writing and playing the guitar. Todd is a published author (his last book, a biography, sold over 100,000 copies and is being made into a biopic) and also contributes as a freelance Op-Ed columnist. When he is not writing, Todd enjoys composing and recording his own jazz-rock guitar pieces.

Karen Louis, Office Manager

In 1995, Karen began her marketing research career coordinating front desk operations at Murray Hill West in Santa Monica, CA, and thus launched a friendship with Todd Biederman that would endure the test of time.  That early friendship quickly turned into a successful business alliance and the passionate “team” that still exists, stronger than ever, today.

With an additional background in Project and Facility Management, Karen’s familiarity with staff oversight, client relations, special project supervision, incentive/financial management, and inventory control, assures a high level of competency as our Office Manger that is, quite simply, extraordinary.  She has coordinated thousands of marketing research studies/focus groups and her attention to detail and dedication to client customer service ensures the smoothest behind-the-scene operations possible at Advanced Focus.

Karen is married and is the proud parent of one teenage, well-traveled cat; Chappy.  She is a native New Yorker who enjoys writing, world travel and animal advocacy.
